Code of Conduct

Mt Lilydale Old Collegians Football Club
Statement of our Code of Conduct, Values & Behaviours

As part of the VAFA, MLOCFC has a responsibility to both our local and the wider football community that wish to attend local football matches by providing the safest and most enjoyable environment possible by ensuring essential community standards of behaviour are adhered to by all participants including players, committee members, other club officials and spectators.

This document seeks to clarify some of those community standards that will become nonnegotiable club standards of behaviour.  This document is not all encompassing and the MLOCFC retains the right of removal from the Mount Lilydale College Sporting Oval of any person or persons whose behaviour is deemed to be offensive or dangerous.

The MLOCFC will provide an Information Marshal at each home game to introduce this policy and discuss any issues arising.

The MLOCFC recognises the work of Football Federation Victoria and acknowledges that this document is based on their “General principles for all persons involved in sport”.

  • Operate within the Rules and spirit of Football by promoting fair play.
    • As a community based sporting club MLOCFC makes the obligation to our league and our community to have the football department create and annually review a player group code of conduct directed at football match player behaviours reflecting acceptable community standards.  The senior leadership group is to encourage and educate the entire playing group in those rules.  This will be an ongoing policy based around providing opportunities for developing individual support, encouragement, education, self discipline and continuous learning, not excessive punishment.

  • Respect the rights and worth of every person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
    • No longer are disconcerting remarks concerning individuals based on their gender or cultural backgrounds acceptable public behaviours and the MLOCFC will take every measure necessary to ensure the MLOCFC family does not participate in this behaviour.  Derogatory remarks based on an individual’s ability will be monitored and continual education will be provided as required so that an environment of support and encouragement becomes the continuous trend.
  • Respect the decisions of officials, coaches and administrators in the conduct of the sport.
    • MLOCFC is proud of the maturing and developing trend in its attitude and treatment of officials, coaches and administrators.  MLOCFC believes that by continuing to focus on the dot points above that this will develop a strong and continuing internal culture of respect for all participants.
  • Wherever practical, avoid unaccompanied and unobserved one-on-one activity (when in a supervisory capacity or where a power imbalance will exist) with people under the age of 18 years.

  • Adopt responsible behaviour in relation to alcohol and other drugs.
    • MLOCFC will provide a clear and unambiguous policy on the responsible service of alcohol ensuring that VAFA rules are adhered to at all times and ensuring both Mount Lilydale College and our local communities expectations are met.

  • Act with integrity and objectivity, and accept responsibility for your decisions and actions.
    • MLOCFC recognises that people enjoying our sport and facilities will transgress from time to time but in the first instance will make all efforts to educate individuals or groups in what is considered acceptable behaviours.
    • Other actions will only be sanctioned if it is considered that all avenues of discussion and redress have been unable to develop a workable solution.

  • Do not bring the game or our club into Disrepute by any other conduct that materially injures the reputation and goodwill of Football, our football club, Mount Lilydale College and our community.
    • MLOCFC expects its playing group, its officials and supporters to act in goodwill towards the sentiments within this document and believe it will establish a strong team culture with a community focus while building high tolerances.  However it also expects the behaviour of visitors to our home to avoid provocative behaviours and abide by the goodwill that this document and the MLOCFC family seek to provide to all.
    • This point applies equally to all social activities MLOCFC will conduct both at Mount Lilydale College Sporting Oval and at any other venue the club uses.  Behaviour at these functions will be monitored and excessive behaviours will not be tolerated. MLOCFC reminds all participants in club activities that our fundamental objective is to provide “the safest and most enjoyable environment as possible” where members of the MLOCFC family can attend football club activities with pride and confidence.

(NB for the purposes of this code of behaviour ‘Disrepute’ means conduct and behaviours, statement/s or appearance in public that is damaging to reputation).
